For the first-time executor
A little clarity.
One step at a time.
Settling a loved one’s estate is unfamiliar work at a difficult time. Settlewell helps you understand what comes next, with a calm, plain-English checklist.
First 30 days preview, free. Take it at your pace.
A manageable place to begin
Find the will. Gather the certificates. Take a breath.
What you can expect
Plain English, not legal jargon
A next step, not an overwhelming list
Built for families, not law firms
A path through the paperwork
You don’t have to figure out everything today.
Start with your state and a few details: whether there’s a will, real estate, minor children, or business assets. Your checklist takes those answers into account, beginning with a general U.S. flow and Utah-specific guidance.
Tasks unfold in phases, so you can focus on what matters now. Estate timelines vary; some take longer than a year.
First 30 days
Make a steady start
Secure the will and death certificates, understand how many copies to order, notify Social Security, and contact banks and credit bureaus.
Days 30–90
Bring the details together
Inventory assets and debts, understand probate and letters testamentary, and gather the records needed for the next stage.
Months 3–12
Work toward closing
Track tax obligations, pay valid debts, distribute to beneficiaries, and follow the steps to close the estate.
Less searching. More continuity.
One place for the pieces.
The full plan brings documents, accounts, contacts, and tasks together. Attach a will or account statement to the task it belongs to, and keep the details close at hand.
Keep track of people and accounts
Record institutions, balances, beneficiaries, and attorney or CPA contacts.
Pause without losing your place
Save progress, see upcoming deadlines, and invite a family member or co-executor to view the estate.

Storage from year two has a separate annual fee. The proposed fee is $19 per estate per year, subject to final confirmation; it is not a finalized price.
The storage policy calls for a visible renewal date and advance reminders. If unpaid, a 60-day grace period allows a full export before stored documents and data are deleted under the deletion policy.
A few things worth knowing
Begin with just the next step
A little less to carry.
You don’t need all the answers to begin. Start with the first 30 days and make space for what comes next.
